HDA - House of Architecture

The House of Architecture, abbreviated in German as HDA (Haus der Architektur), is a non-profit-organization focusing on the mediation and promotion of contemporary architecture. The HDA was established in 1988 as the first institution of its kind in Austria and has been a precedent for founding similar associations throughout Austria and also in other European countries. It was started by the Province of Styria, the City of Graz, the “Kammer der Architekten und Ingenieurkonsulenten für Steiermark und Kärnten” (Styrian and Carinthian Chambers of architects and chartered engineering consultants), the Institute for architecture at the Technical University of Graz, the Forum Stadtpark and by the Styrian part of the Austrian Architects Association. As a result, the HDA is manifesting the collective intentions and efforts of a large and diverse group, which assigns a crucial significance to architecture in today's societies.

In its many years the HDA has positioned itself as a forum and platform at the interface of architectural producers and interested recipients in the general public. As a consequence the HDA has long found its place as an anchor in the debate about regional and international development and projects. It covers a diverse area of activities - ranging from exhibitions, lectures, workshops, presentations of competitions to the general mediation of architecture and the organization of architectural study trips.
