We are celebrating Design for 4 weeks and offer a dense design program. All started on May 4th with the opening event and the Designers’ Night with DJ DSL.

How Much Tolerance Does Design Need?

Design triggers emotions which are located between aversion and approval, enthusiasm and disappointment, outrage and indifference. Yet, who is the one to say what is beautiful? Who says what works for whom and why? And who judges good taste – and why? Design is also a question of tolerance. So, Designmonat Graz focuses on the topic of tolerance. It challenges and demands tolerance! And it also challenges you: with an interesting program, with an unusual graphic design and with a lot of design within 4 weeks!

Opening
Designmonat Graz 2018 and the exhibitions at Joanneumsviertel Graz were opened by Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, Minister for Economy, Tourism, Europe, Science and Research, and the Mayor of Graz Siegfried Nagl.

Since 2009, the Designmonat Graz bundles and consolidates the energy of the regional creative industries within one month, makes it visible and thus, contributes to a large share to the embedding of the creative industries in the public consciousness. It offers a stage to innovative projects, on an experimental as well as on a commercial level, and increases the awareness about the significance of design as a development and added value process.

With its dense and interdisciplinary program, consisting of exhibitions, festivals and a comprehensive dialogue program, Designmonat Graz is one of the most interesting international design events. Within one month, designers from different branches put the potential of creative work in the spotlight. The spectrum ranges from initiatives of single designers to those of big local design educational establishments and institutions. Successful examples for the connection of the creative scene with the economy, industry and commerce are reflected by the variety of events. They also offer a perfect environment for the creation of new synergies and co operations on the basis of future-oriented city development.

As UNESCO City of Design, Graz takes multiple chances for networking. During Designmonat Graz, the city expresses this especially through intense exchange with its design partner cities from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Designmonat Graz is organized by the Styrian network corporation Creative Industries Styria.
